At BabelChess we value your trust. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, why, how we use it, and what rights you have over it. It applies to everyone who visits our site or buys from us, no matter what country they are in. BabelChess is a sole proprietorship based in Concord, Massachusetts, United States.

We ship to the United States and Canada, and we plan to expand to more countries in the future. Because we operate from the United States, your information is processed and stored there; by using the site, you understand that your data may be handled in the United States even if you are visiting us from elsewhere.

By using our website, subscribing to our newsletter, or placing an order, you accept the practices described in this policy.

1 · What information we collect

We collect only the minimum information needed to run the business:

• Information you give us directly: your email address, through the newsletter signup form. If you place an order, we also receive your name and the shipping address you enter.
• Payment information: payments are processed securely through our payment provider (PayPal). BabelChess does not receive or store your card numbers or financial credentials; that information is handled directly by the payment provider under its own policies.
• Automatic technical data: when you visit the site, our hosting provider automatically records basic technical data such as your IP address, browser type, and pages visited (see section 6).

2 · How we use your information

We use your data solely to:

• Process and ship your orders, and communicate with you about them.
• Send you our newsletter and marketing communications, only if you subscribed voluntarily.
• Answer your questions and provide customer service.
• Maintain and improve the operation and security of the site.
• Comply with legal and accounting obligations.

Legal bases for processing: we process your data to perform our contract with you when you place an order; with your consent when you subscribe to marketing; and under our legitimate interest in operating and improving the business securely.

3 · We do not sell your information

BabelChess does not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. Ever. We share it only with the service providers strictly necessary to operate (for example, the payment platform, the email marketing service, the shipping provider, and the site's hosting provider), and only to the extent needed to serve you.

4 · Email marketing

We use an email marketing provider (MailerLite) to manage our newsletter. We add you only if you subscribe voluntarily. Every email we send includes a one-click unsubscribe link. You can cancel your subscription at any time, free of charge and without giving a reason. Once you unsubscribe you stop receiving marketing communications, though we may still contact you about an active order.

5 · Your rights over your data

We respect your rights over your personal information regardless of where you live. Depending on your location, the law may grant you some or all of the following rights — for example, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) in the United States, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) in Canada, or the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in Europe:

• Access: find out what personal data of yours we hold and obtain a copy.
• Correction: ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
• Deletion: ask us to delete your data, except what we must keep for legal or accounting reasons (for example, the record of a purchase).
• Restriction and objection: ask us to restrict or stop using your data in certain cases.
• Portability: receive your data in a commonly used format to transfer it to another service.
• Withdrawing consent: where processing is based on your consent, you may withdraw it at any time.
• Non-discrimination: we will not treat you differently for exercising any of these rights.

To exercise any of these rights, write to us at info@babelchess.com. We will respond within a reasonable time and in accordance with applicable law. We may ask you to confirm your identity before processing the request, in order to protect your information. If you are in Europe and believe we have not resolved your request, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your country's data protection authority.

6 · Cookies and tracking technologies

For now our site does not use tracking, analytics, or advertising cookies, and we do not share your browsing activity with third parties. We use only minimal first-party cookies: those strictly necessary for the page to work, and one that remembers the choice you make in our cookie notice, so we don't have to ask you again every time.

You can change that choice at any time using the "Cookies" button available on the site, and you can also configure your browser to block or delete cookies.

Our hosting provider records basic technical data (IP address, browser type, pages visited) that we use solely for the security and operation of the site.

If we add analytics or advertising tools in the future, we will state so in this policy and ask for your consent before activating them.

7 · Security and data retention

We take reasonable measures to protect your information. However, no system is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. We keep your data only for as long as necessary for the purposes described or as required by law.

8 · Minors

Our site and products are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a minor has given us information, write to us and we will delete it.

9 · Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The version in force is always the one published on the site, with its last-updated date.

This policy is available in Spanish and English. In the event of any discrepancy between the two versions, the English version prevails.
