El colorThe Color

Nadie dijo nunca que
el ajedrez
tuviera que ser
solo blanco y negro.
Chess was never meant to be
only
black & white.

For centuries chess has been known as a game between two players and two colors, called white and black the world over.

Although there seems to be no written rule confirming it, we do know for certain — the international regulations say so — that squares and pieces must be of two clearly contrasting colors.

We have also seen the pieces reimagined countless times, in every form imaginable, and sometimes astonishing ones…

Of course we admire the beauty of many striking boards made of fine woods, marble and countless other materials. We respect their quality and their nobility.

But… if you want something different…

“Most people don’t look much.
Well, I have spent my life looking.”
David Hockney

Does a board have to be black and white,
or brown and brown, or nothing but restrained?

Can it be something to look at
and still a board to play on?

History tells us of a Babel of many tongues and many cultures…

Chess is a wonderful world where people of any origin or class can meet and share the same game.

Beyond our differences,
there are ideas that can bring us together around a board.

BabelChess no es aquella torre…
Es el Tablero.
BabelChess is not that tower…
It is the Board.
